かなり久しぶりの取り扱いになるパンツブランド、
『 BERNARD ZINA /  ベルナールザンス 』が入荷してきました。
なんと！  きちんとMADE IN FRANCE 。
これは他では見ることがないザンスのパンツだと思います。

ザンスのパンツは色々なショップで展開があると思いますが
REUNIONに入荷してきたのはかなり久しぶりです。
調べてみたところ最後に入荷したのは2018年の春、
8年ぶりの展開となります。

ベルナールザンスと私太田との出会いは、『 太田茂の40年史 』にもあるように
まさに40年前。
当時10代だったにもかかわらず、フランスのエミスフェールというブランドが好きで
そこで出会ったのが、ザンスのパンツ。

このエミスフェールで様々ないい物と出会うのですが、
ザンスはそこからずっと好きなパンツブランドです。
初めて買った時のコットンパンツのプライスが今でも覚えていますが
19000円でした。
当時のトラッド系のウールのスラックスよりも高い綿パンだったので
鮮明に覚えています。
ブランドのタグもなく、ショップの方に
『 これはザンスというブランドなんですよ 』と言われ
それ以来カッコいいパンツはザンス！ってなったわけです。

こんな感じで、ザンスのロゴはありません。

その頃、同じ時期くらいにフランスのパンツ、『 JEAN  BOURGIOS / ジャンブルジョア 』っていう
ブランドがありまして、その２ブランドばかり穿いておりました。
ジャンブルジョアは私が輸入元で働いていたこともあり、かなりの本数を所有してました。
まだ少し残りがあるので、また40年史でお話しますね。

兎に角、このザンス、ブランドロゴは無いものの様々なブランドのパンツを
請け負っていた優秀なパンツで、
オールドイングランド、マルセルラサンス、エミスフェールなど当時イケてるブランドは
ザンスのパンツというのが定番でした。

お店を始めた1995年には、ファッション的にはイタリア物が中心になり
パンツもイタリアのブランドに変わっていきましたが、
ザンスのパンツは時々仕入れていました。
多分、2000年代初期まではザンスもフランス製だったと記憶しています。

暫くお休みしていましたが、2016年に私が大変お世話になった社長から連絡があり
ザンスのパンツを輸入することになったからREUNIONにも置いたらどうだと言われまして
恩人に言われたら置くしかないでしょということで仕入れてみました。

その頃はまたクラッシックなモデルが多く
なんとなく懐かしいということで
ウチのお客様にも好評でした。

ところがここで気づいてしまったことが・・
なんとここからフランス製ではなくなってしまていたんです。

そしてそこから代理店が変わり、僕が取り扱うことは無くなってしまったのですが
ブランドとしては飛躍的にメジャーブランドになっていきましたね。
割とモードっぽいモデルもあったりとショップによってモデルも様々で
気にはなっていましたが仕入れることはありませんでした。

今回はまた代理店が新しくなり、展示会のお誘いがありましたので
のこのこ出かけて行ったんですが、
そこで見つけちゃったんです！　　フランス製のザンス。

薄手のコットンツイルで、ストレッチも効いておりません。
私のインスタグラムを見ていただけばお分かりですが
股上深めで、太めのシルエット。
こんなシルエットのパンツを穿くのは久しぶりの感じです。

洗いざらしでカジュアルに穿いてもいいし、
少し綺麗目にブレザーなんかと合わせていただけると抜群にカッコいいのではないかと思います。

シューズはやはりオールデンがいいですかね。

この素材で、フランス製のザンスはREUNIONだけだそうです。

他のショップとは一味違うベルナールザンス、
マニアの方もそうでない方も是非お試しください。

“BERNARD ZINS” New Arrivals and a Little History

We’ve received a shipment of “BERNARD ZINS,” a pants brand we haven’t carried in quite some time.
And get this! They’re genuinely MADE IN FRANCE.
I believe these are ZINS pants you won’t find anywhere else.

 

While Zins pants are likely available at various shops,
it’s been quite a while since they’ve arrived at REUNION.
Upon checking, the last time we stocked them was in the spring of 2018,
so this marks our first offering in eight years.

 

My first encounter with Bernard Zina, as detailed in *Shigeru Ota’s 40-Year History*,
was exactly 40 years ago.
Even though I was still a teenager at the time, I loved a French brand called Hémisphère,
and that’s where I first discovered Zina’s pants.

 

I discovered many great items through Hémisphère,
but Sans has remained my favorite pants brand ever since.
I still remember the price of the cotton pants I bought for the first time—
it was 19,000 yen.
Since they were cotton pants that cost more than the traditional wool slacks of the time,
I remember it vividly.
There was no brand tag, and the shop staff told me,
“This is a brand called Sans,”
and ever since then, I’ve thought, “Cool pants mean Sans!”

 

As you can see, Zans doesn’t have a logo.

 

Around the same time, there was a French pants brand called “JEAN BOURGIOS,”
and I wore nothing but those two brands.
Since I used to work for the importer of Jean Bourgios, I owned quite a few pairs.
I still have a few left, so I’ll talk about them again in my 40-year history.

Anyway, even though Zans didn’t have its own brand logo, it was a top-notch manufacturer that produced pants for various brands.
For trendy brands of the time—like Old England, Marcel Lassance, and Emisphère—
Zans pants were the standard choice.

 

When I opened my store in 1995, Italian fashion had become the mainstream,
and pants were shifting toward Italian brands,
but I still stocked Zans pants from time to time.
I believe Zans was still made in France until the early 2000s.

We hadn’t carried them for a while, but in 2016, I received a message from the president of the company who had been very kind to me.
He told me they were starting to import Zans pants again and asked if I’d consider stocking them at REUNION.
Since it was a request from someone who had helped me so much, I felt I had no choice but to give it a try.

 

At that time, there were many classic styles again,
and perhaps because they evoked a sense of nostalgia,
they were well-received by our customers.

 

But then I realized something…
Believe it or not, they had stopped being made in France by that point.

After that, the distributor changed, and I stopped carrying them,
but as a brand, it really took off and became a major player.
There were some fairly fashion-forward styles, and the selection varied by shop,
so I was curious, but I never actually stocked them.

This time, the distributor changed again, and I received an invitation to a trade show,
so I happily went along,
and that’s where I found it! A French-made Zans.

 

They’re made of lightweight cotton twill with no stretch.
As you can see from my Instagram,
they feature a high rise and a roomy silhouette.
It’s been a while since I’ve worn pants with this kind of silhouette.

You can wear them casually straight out of the wash,
or pair them with a blazer for a slightly dressier look—I think they’d look absolutely great.

As for shoes, Alden is definitely the way to go.

Apparently, REUNION is the only French-made Zans brand that uses this fabric.

Bernard Zans offers something a little different from other shops—
whether you’re a fan or not, I highly recommend giving them a try.
