『 太田茂の40年史 』 Vol. 26 『 BELVEST & EDWARD GREEN 』
インスタグラムやブログをご覧になっていただいてる方は薄々気づいていと思いますが、
実は最近、太田痩せたんです。
元々かなり恰幅のいい感じでしたが、１０年くらい前に一回やせたんですね。
その時に購入したスーツやジャケットがかなりありまして、
タンスの肥やしになっていたんですが、ついにまた日の目を見ることとなりました。
こちらは10年前のBELVEST、
少し前のモデルですのでラペル幅が少し細いんですが、今着ても全然いい感じで着られます。
やはりいい物は年数が経ってもきちんとしてますね。
接着芯を使った安物のスーツではこうはいきません。
そしてこちらは35年くらい前に購入したエドワードグリーンのBERKELEY。
久しぶりに履きましたがこちらもメチャメチャいい感じです。
これを見たお客様が、個人オーダーで同じモデルをスウェード素材で注文してくれました。
スーツも靴もきちんといい物を持っていれば、こんな感じで引っ張り出してこれますね。
そして今でも十分カッコいい。
洋服屋としてはこういう商品を取り扱えているというのはありがたいですね。
購入するときには高い買い物ですが、やはりいい物は持っていたいところです。
ケアも非常に重要になってきますが、いまはそれぞれいろいろなスペシャリストの方がいらっしゃいますので
昔よりは復活させるのも簡単になってきました。
僕の若い頃にはスーツはクリーニングには出さないっていうのが教えでしたが
今ではそんなことなく、このBELVESTのスーツも腕のあるクリーニング屋さんにお願いして
水洗いの後丁寧にプレスしていただき新品同様、素材の風合いも元通りになっております。

ま、靴は僕も好きなので自分である程度はやりますが・・
まだまだ古い服は沢山あるのですが、
基本的には新しく買うのが一番好きなので
これからも好きな服をどんどん買って、大事に着たいと思っております。

but actually, I’ve lost some weight recently.
I used to be quite on the heavier side, but I actually lost weight about ten years ago.
I had quite a few suits and jackets that I bought back then,
and they’d been gathering dust in my closet, but they’re finally seeing the light of day again.
This is a BELVEST from 10 years ago.
It’s an older model, so the lapels are a bit narrower, but it still fits perfectly even now.
Quality pieces really hold up well over time.
You just don’t get that with cheap suits made with fusible interfacing.
And here is a pair of Edward Green “Berkeley” shoes I bought about 35 years ago.
I wore them for the first time in ages, and they feel absolutely fantastic too.
A customer who saw these actually placed a custom order for the same model in suede.
If you own high-quality suits and shoes, you can pull them out like this.
And they still look plenty stylish today.
As a clothing retailer, I’m truly grateful to be able to carry items like these.
They’re a big investment when you buy them, but you really do want to own quality items.
Proper care is also crucial, but nowadays there are various specialists available,
so restoring them has become much easier than it used to be.
When I was younger, I was taught never to send suits to the dry cleaner,
but that’s no longer the case. I took this BELVEST suit to a skilled dry cleaner,
and after a water wash and careful pressing, it looks just like new—the texture of the fabric has been fully restored.
If you’re worried about cleaning a good suit, please feel free to ask me for advice.
If you prefer to take it directly to a dry cleaner, I highly recommend consulting “Cleaning Shimizu” in Fukuroi City, right next to Iwata.
They’ll get your Keaton, Attolini, or BELVEST suits looking spotless.
As for shoes, since everyone has their own preferences these days, I think you should just have them cared for wherever you like,
but I personally go to “Y’s Shoeshine” in Shizuoka City.
Well, I like shoes myself, so I do a fair amount of maintenance on them myself, but…
I still have plenty of old clothes,
but basically, I like buying new ones best,
so I plan to keep buying clothes I love and wearing them with care.
